about
Chloe Russell Chang (she/her) is a fiber artist and educator whose work combines haptic techniques like quilting, needlwork, and natural dyeing with phrenic practices including dream work and astrology. She is interested in synthesizing physical and imaginal processes in an exploration of the repetitious nature of the universe, which echoes through our daily lives and is mirrored on micro and macrocosmic scales. Her work honors the magic in every day existence.
From a young age, Chloe naturally found affinity with processes which calm the central nervous system and produce generative flow state. Throughout childhood, she could be found drawing on stacks and stacks of printer paper, making hundreds of polymer clay sculptures, and at one point, painting a bedroom mural out of nail polish- a lack of idle hands did not always keep her out of trouble. Her heritage includes quilters and craftswomen from the Great Plains region of Nebraska and the Appalachian Valley in Tennessee, whose lives were largely undocumented except for marriage records, death certificates, and the quilts they made by hand.
Chloe received a BFA in illustration from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2014. She has created arts and educational programming for nonprofit arts organizations for over a decade. Chloe currently resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota with her husband, Alex and her Australian Shepherd, Evie.
